Over You
LyonxReader

It had been constant training since you had gotten back from your last mission, and you were sure if had something to do with him seeing his old enemy/arch nemesis/childhood friend/whatever-the-hell-Gray-Fullbuster-was-to-him-anymore again.

Since he couldn’t beat Gray (who couldn’t beat him either) Lyon decided the next best thing would be to rank higher than his fellow ice mage. He would defeat his own master.

But enough was enough.

“Lyon!” you called out over the sounds of his grunts and pants, “You’re going to kill yourself like this. Why don’t you just take a break?”

He snarled at your words, not even pausing in his motions made against giant golems he had made of his ice. “I can’t.”

Sighing, you stood your ground. “Why not? What is this even about?”

“It’s about her, dammit!”

You felt your entire body freeze.

“H-her?” you asked slowly, unsure of yourself.

Now Lyon stopped and turned to face you, an almost wistful expression on his face. “Juvia,” he told you as if speaking to an idiot.

You felt like you had swallowed something sour. “Right, Juvia. She’s in love with Gray, isn’t she?”

Lyon tsked, turning back to his training, “He doesn’t deserve someone as perfect as her.”

Forcing a pained smile to your face, you stayed put. “And you do?”

“Of course I do,” he snapped, “I’m perfect for her!”

Tears pricked at the corner of your eyes. “Right,” you responded, before finally leaving.

After you had left, Lyon just stopped. He wasn’t sure why, but it felt pointless training if you weren’t watching. Gritting his teeth, he decided it was because he needed to professional advice- you were also able to animate the objects you would create of rock, so your opinion on his magic was relevant.

Dissolving his ice-men, Lyon turned and chased after you, unable to find you in the main room of the guild’s headquarters. He didn’t bother checking anywhere else, he knew you well enough to know where you went when you didn’t want to be found.

He said nothing, just sat next to you on the edge of the dock, staring out at the boats sailing far away from this place. Your heart ached to join them, but in your head you knew you couldn’t. Your face was stoic as you watched the sun slip past the horizon, leaving you in only the dim afterglow of sunset.

Lyon stared at you. You seemed sad like this, but he didn’t know what to say to make it better. He didn’t even know what he had done to make you like this, or if it even was him. But no, that was a lie. He knew he had done it.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized, voice clear yet still quiet, “I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”

You sniffled, rubbing at your face with your hands to warm up the skin some. “It’s fine,” you told him, “you didn’t do anything.”

Gritting his teeth, the ice mage stared at you. “Then what’s wrong?” he asked, trying to stay calm, “Did someone hurt you?”

Swallowing around the lump in your throat, you cleared your throat, hoping to choke back the tears until the boy next to you left. “Yeah,” you whispered, afraid that if you spoke any louder you would burst into tears.

“Who?” was all he said.

You squeezed your eyes shut and clutched at your jeans. “He didn’t mean to,” you said, trying to justify his innocence in your mind.

“Do you think that matters? He obviously screwed up.”

A rueful chuckle left your lungs. “Yeah,” you muttered, “His big head kept him from seeing anything.”

“What do you mean?” he spoke uncharacteristically soft, voice sounded earnestly concerned.

“Dumbass,” you tsked, lightly swatting at his arm. “I mean get over your rivalry and try to see what’s going on in front of you.”

He was so clueless, and he still had no idea what you were talking about. Rolling your eyes at the boy, you shook your head slightly. “I like you, Lyon, but you’re so set on being better than Gray that you have to even take his little fangirl away from him.”

You stood, leaving him alone with those words hanging in the air.

“Get over yourself.”
